Club History

Bluefish Swim Club Maine was spawned from two important and established swim club teams that preceded it. The first, was also the first official club team to be registered in Cape Elizabeth as the "Nautilus Swim Club"(pre 1991) which was started by the late Coach Don Richards. When Coach Richards left the area in 1991, Coastal Maine Aquatics(founded 1991) was born. CMA operated in the Cape Elizabeth and South Portland area for more than 30 years and was known throughout the state of Maine and New England as a first-class, year-round swim program from 1991 to 2023.

During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, swim meet opportunities in Maine dried up significantly, to the point that CMA had to look beyond the state of Maine for more competitive events. Most of these meets were hosted by the New England LSC but post pandemic, these competitions closed the option for out of LSC teams to compete at their meets. This meant that only teams that were registered within the NES LSC had the option to swim at their meets. The CMA Board of Directors and Coaching Staff felt that it would be beneficial for CMA to look for a partner club within the NES LSC and thus Bluefish Swim Club - Maine was launched in 2023.
